2009 Presenting Companies
The Angel Capital Summit is delighted to announce the companies that were selected to present their business concepts on November 17.
These presenters, 35 for-profit companies and four non-profit organizations, were selected from over 190 applicants. Competition was tight, and there are many strong businesses among those that we simply could not accommodate in one conference. Our congratulations to the presenting companies, and to all applicants.

| 2. | Astronix Research LLC | The Company was formed to develop and commercialize Analog to Digital Converters competing at the very highest levels of the $15B analog devices market. Primary initial customers are major defense contractors, government agencies and aerospace companies with well defined unmet needs for ADCs. Margins at the high end of this market consistently exceed 90%. The company will be cash postive on sales of ADCs in 2010, then see rapid growth with highly disruptive products in 2011-2013. |
| 3. | Beacon Biotechnology LLC | Beacon Biotechnology is developing a disruptive technology allowing up to 100 different quantitative molecular or immunoassay diagnostic tests to be performed on a drop of sample on a disposable device in about 15 minutes. There is no ‘instrument’ in the traditional sense as the disposable is the instrument. We are developing a rapid test for meat processing plants to rapidly test for food pathogens, bypassing the millions spent in quarantining product until traditional tests can be run. |
| 4. | BioCare Systems | BioCare develops infrared therapy devices to regenerate cartilage, accelerate tissue healing of sprains, strains and fractures and decrease pain. Our FDA cleared products treat conditions representing a $40 billion market. Our 2-tiered market strategy is already selling to elite athletes in Olympic, Pro, and Div-I programs, with an FDA-reviewed clinical plan leading to reimbursement. NASA chose LumiWave from all competitors to take into space and will develop a battery powered unit for us. |
| 5. | BlogFrog | BlogFrog allows any blog or website to connect readers by instantly adding a social network to their site. This creates thousands of niche communities which together form the next big social network. Our initial target market are women and moms and in a short time we have grown to become the #1 network of Mom blogs in the US. We are generating revenue, have consistent product adoption, and are seeking $250K to commercialize and expand into more verticals. BlogFrog is already scheduled to close a seed round of angel investment on Nov 30th. |
| 6. | CO2Nexus Inc. | CO2Nexus, Inc. is an technology/equipment vendor targeting the dry cleaning (now) and commercial laundry (later) industries. Our technology replaces heavily regulated toxic and hazardous chemical (dry cleaning) and increasingly scarce water (commercial laundry) with liquid carbon dioxide (CO2), a cheap, abundant, odorless, non-toxic, non hazardous and non soil/groundwater polluting solvent with excellent cleaning ability. CO2 is commonly used to add "fizz" to beverages; decaffeinate coffee beans and in various other applications. Our cleaning process does not add CO2 to the atmosphere but just recycles existing CO2 that is already in the air for use in the equipment. We have a launch customer with nationwide expansion plans that will be installing our first machine in January 2010. We aim to become the dominant provider of equipment to qualified fabric cleaning establishments in commercial and institutional markets within 5 years as existing solvents are phased out across North America and Europe. |

| 8. | Current Motor | Current Motor has developed electric moped/scooters for the $800M U.S. and $10B global markets. We are seeking an $500k A-Round for product and market development, followed by a $2M B-Round to accelerate market expansion, leading to profitability in 3 years, and $18M revenue in 5 years. The company integrates components with proprietary control systems, and have identified IP for critical components, protecting the technology and leading to an acquisition by a gas scooter manufacturer. |
| 9. | CytoLogic Inc | CytoLogic has developed novel technology for the treatment of cancer. Conceptually similar to dialysis, our patented technology enhances the patient’s immune system to fight malignant tumors. Our technology improves patient outcome in a fast, safe, easy procedure, at low cost. With the seed funding we have patents issued, product developed, proof-of-concept established and manufacturing procedures completed. We have a solid business model and $1 Billion market opportunity. |
| 10. | e:Telesis | e:Telesis, headquartered in Virginia, USA, is a Low-Profit Limited Liability Company (L3C). Formed as a partnership between e:Telesis Holding, which owns several other successful network and energy engineering divisions, and Connect The World, a non-profit working with Habitat for Humanity to eradicate the housing, energy, and communications inequality in the developing world. We are offering the opportunity to be part of a revolutionary company focused on alternative energy solutions. |
| 11. | EDUSS Broadcast & Media Inc. | We can increase a teacher’s productivity in the classroom by up to 65%. It is important to note that EDUSS is not talking about possible future technology that is untested or not yet developed. The proprietary software products, for all three marketing stages, have already been developed and sales into the market have begun. EDUSS believes that with a small convertible debt financing package the company can leverage its proven sales strategy. |

| 13. | HepQuant LLC | HepQuant LLC is “THE” liver function company. The HepQuant system employs safe, noninvasive methods and highly accurate laboratory technology to directly assess patients with liver disease. Safety and utility have alreadbeen shown in over 800 tests in patients with fibrotic stages of chronic hepatitis C. Broader utility and lower cost give it a considerable competitive advantage over any liver test in use today for a market of 10 million US and 500 million international liver disease patients. |
| 14. | Hydraulic Hybrid Systems LLC | Hydraulic Hybrid Systems is providing a unique and cost-effective solution to fleet managers who are being driven towards retrofit solutions by government regulations and the need to reduce fuel costs. There are over 6 million light and medium duty fleet trucks in the U.S. alone and HHS is providing a viable solution them. There are currently no competitors serving the hydraulic hybrid space in the light- and medium-duty truck retrofit markets. |
| 15. | ImagiPLAY | Just prior to the 2007 toy recalls, 11-yr-old toymaker ImagiPLAY made the choice to create a new product category: Earth Friendly Toys. The decision fueled triple-digit growth, and catapulted the company’s brand into the limelight. With more than 2,000 retailers nation-wide and abroad carrying ImagiPLAY toys, the company is poised to act on this market lead to grow and dominate the category becoming THE toy company that consumers trust to deliver child safe, earth friendly toys. |
| 16. | In the Circle of Life | The Denver area has @ 300 veterinary clinics. We will pay for consultative visits (@ $48 each) that will allow us to present our service to the veterinarians in less than four months with one direct sales person. In nine visits to date, we have handshakes from six clinics to switch to our service. We expect to be at breakeven within six-months. This success will be the basis for another round of financing (Series B: $2 million) to expand to additional markets. |
| 17. | Leap Frogg LLC | Leap Frogg has built and clinically tested a new medical device that will save over 20,000 lives and capture a 10% share of a $1.1 billion market by 2015. The patent pending device, The Frogg® Dynamic Compression System, prevents venous thromboemboli the third leading cause of death in the U.S. in a more efficacious and cost effective manner than any currently available prophylaxis. The total required investment is $6M ($1M current raise) with an expected exit in 3-5 years at $60M - $120M. |
| 18. | Moedus LLC | Moedus is an independent service provider of highly accurate 3D content of buildings, power plants, roadways, oil & gas pipelines, & bridges. We utilize fixed and mobile LIDAR hardware & software technology to scan, process & customize 3D data models. Our approach allows us to provide services that minimize cost and time and increase accuracy for our clients. Moedus has generated over $300k in revenue to date, has a sales pipeline of over $2M, & is looking to expand its corporate development |
| 19. | mShopper | mShopper is a mobile mall with over 120 merchants and 14 million SKUs. Our vision is to democratize the $4 trillion retail market. We created a mobile platform that facilitates real-time, 2-way communications between buyers and merchants. Would-be buyers can broadcast purchase intentions to waiting merchants who can respond in real time at the point-of-sale. | 20. | Optibike | Optibike builds the highest performance electric bicycles in the world today, with 2009 revenues of $1.3 M and a global brand which dominates the ultra-premium segment of a $1B market in the US and Europe alone. Optibike has been in production since 2006 and is seeking $1.6M to fund tooling, marketing and working capital to grow 20X in five years. Optibike will earn a small profit (EBITDA) in 2009 and will likewise be marginally cash flow positive in 2009 on an ongoing, operational basis. |
| 21. | Panda Bicycles | Panda Bicycles builds bamboo bikes for commuting and the overall enjoyment of life. The managers and advisers have experience and expertise in the bike industry. Panda is targeting the largest and fastest growing sector of the bike market, and its pending IP allows Panda to deliver performance and style at a much lower price than the competition. Panda expects to sell 300 bikes and accessories in year one, yielding revenues of $303,715. Anticipated year 5 revenues are $4.60M with EBIT of $1.05M. |
| 22. | PatientNOW | PatientNOW is an innovative healthcare technology company that creates medical practice management software, including Electronic Medical Records (EMR), for medical practices, medical spas, and hospitals. PatientNOW allows doctors to better manage their patient’s information while saving time and improving services of the practice. |
| 23. | Piria Inc | Piria is a post concept, post development, start-up with a ready to launch social marketplace designed around a powerful website building application. We currently have an industry partner investor and R&D value added angel investor on the Board. We are seeking additional angel investor, ideally with marketing value add, to provide incremental funding and expertise to support the commercial launch of DesignTribe. |
| 24. | Polymer Aging Concepts | AgeAlert™ is the next generation of nanotechnology sensors. This powerful little “dot”, no bigger than a period, will dramatically change the playing field for sensing product aging. AgeAlert™ technology utilizes nanotechnology in an entirely new way to sense aging or degradation of a vast array of industrial, commercial and consumer products. It will, for the first time, provide direct measurement of product aging in a simple, low-cost sensor.

MAS production offers potential annual industry savings of >$1B. Three of the management team are founders or cofounders of successful startups (IPO & acquisition). |
| 26. | Rivertop Renewables | Rivertop will target both high-volume industrial and high-value specialty chemical markets. A manufacturing and marketing partnership will service large industrial markets while Rivertop will focus on creating and enabling new breakthrough products built on our renewable chemical platform. The opportunity is tremendous. The Dept of Energy projects that an affordable supply of Rivertop’s first chemical, glucaric acid, will meet 9B pounds of demand with a value between $7.6 -$19.8B annually. |
| 27. | Rocky Mountain MicroFinance Institute (non-profit) | RMMFI specializes in providing support for non-traditional community entrepreneurs as they develop microenterprises. RMMFI focuses its programming on economically distressed individuals and communities in an effort to provide additional pathways to self-sufficiency. The programs represent a mix of business development and lending services to ensure Colorado’s entrepreneurs have access to both the necessary learning and funding to move their dreams into an income generating business. |
| 28. | Second Wind Fund Inc. (non-profit) | Second Wind Fund (SWF) provides professional counseling services to youth at-risk for suicide, filling a services niche with unparalleled access to care. It's quickly become one of the largest providers of mental health services for youth in Colorado, now serving 500 youth/ year. All 1,700 youth referred to us are still alive; in areas where we've served the most youth, the suicide rate has gone down over several years. It is a simple, replicable model emphasizing quick, local, frequent care. |
| 29. | Shonaquip | Shonaquip is a market leader in the development, production and sales of wheelchairs and assistive devices and in the provision of clinical support, professional training and outreach services in Southern Africa. Shonaquip’s products and services reduce health complications and increase the wheelchair users’ quality of life. The innovative and strong social mission of the company has earned its founder and director international awards and recognition as a social entrepreneur. |
| 30. | Splish Salon Systems Inc. | Splish is the environmentally friendly and socially responsible alternative to hair salons and hair salon franchises and is creating experiences in the $168 BB global industry much the same way Starbucks created experiences with coffee. The Splish Foundation supports local non-profits on behalf of all Splish salons and not at their expense. Splish is also uniquely positioned to develop products that are not only natural and safe but high performing and high margin as well. |
| 31. | SpyderLynk | SpyderLynk is poised to capitalize on the increasing need to make brand advertising interactive with patent-pending technology which transforms a standard company brand logo into a measurable, functioning interactive marketing tool. We are seeking $1M in funding to execute our product development plan and prepare us for a Series A round of funding early next year. These two funding rounds will position us to execute our plans to grow to over $32M in revenue by 2013. |
| 32. | St. Renatus LLC | St. Renatus has a PATENTED topical PHARMACEUTICAL, successfully through Phase 2 of FDA human trials. Current valuation of 91MM based on third party valuation study by Duff and Phelps. Based on an independent study conducted by Copernicus Marketing &Research in 2006, the revenue opportunity is $500 million with an EBITDA of $300 million – in the U.S. alone. No known direct needle-free competitors. We intend to use an 80% direct sale, 20% dealer model for U.S. sales. |
| 33. | Sunflower Corporation | Sunflower is actively marketing a high quality renewable active solar daylighting system for commercial buildings with proven performance capability with-out the disadvantages and failed promises of competitive solutions. We eliminate direct beam, hot spots and user overrides providing opportunities for significant energy savings while enhancing the internal environment ensuring benefits possible due to human factors and reduced energy costs through daylighting. |
| 34. | TeamSnap Inc. | TeamSnap provides the world’s premier application for managing teams and groups, and already has over 140,000 users in 82 countries. The company’s ultimate market is well over $1B, but it is focusing on niches such as S.F. Bay Area youth soccer, where it has established significant critical mass. TeamSnap is generating revenue from paying subscribers, (42% of active teams), and by selling customized products and services on individual team web sites. Gross margins are well over 95%. |
| 35. | TechoShark Inc. | In 6/09 we launched an iPhone application called hoozat to build a user base to eventually showcase our context and location aware mobile advertising platform called SocialDealz. SocialDealz will also be deployed on other mobile applications. We were awarded a $100K NSF SBIR Grant in 1/09. We have generated a provisional patent and are well-positioned to receive $750K in NSF SBIR Phase II and Phase IIB non-diluted funding. In years 4 & 5 we expect a net income of $2.3 and $6.7 million. |
| 36. | The Unreasonable Institute (non-profit) | The Unreasonable Institute incubates high-impact, early-stage social ventures. We attract 25 of the world’s most brilliant, young aspiring social entrepreneurs and bring them together in Boulder, CO for a ten-week summer institute. At the Institute, these entrepreneurs undergo rigorous entrepreneurial training, receive guidance from expert mentors, and have opportunities to obtain the seed capital they need to launch their social ventures. |
| 37. | VanDyne SuperTurbo Inc. | VanDyne SuperTurbo, Inc. has developed a SuperTurbocharger, a device that will increase fuel efficiency in gasoline automobiles by 35%. The device creates a supercharging effect and turbo compounding by combining turbocharger machinery with an infinitely variable transmission. The 35% increase in fuel efficiency is the result of two factors unique to the VanDyne SuperTurbocharger: (1) the boosting power of the SuperTurbocharger allows an automobile manufacturer to downsize its engine by 50%--without sacrificing horsepower or torque; and (2) the SuperTurbocharger also utilizes “waste heat recovery” where the exhaust heat is captured and the corresponding energy is used to propel the crankshaft of the engine. This allows the creation of additional engine power without using additional gasoline, while reducing harmful emissions by 4,000 pounds of CO2 per automobile per year. VanDyne has sold beta units to a German car company, its lead customer, and is testing the SuperTurbocharger at their facility in Germany. Women come from backgrounds of chronic unemployment and poverty and the program helps them develop the skills to function independently in the workplace and community. |
