I tried to create an account, but it says my answer to the last box (the distorted nonsense word) is incorrect.

Question

I’ve tried several times to create an account on the website, and every time I get a message that what I typed in the last box (copying the letters and #’s for the anti-spam) is incorrect. What am I doing wrong?

Answer

That distorted word is called a "captcha", and its purpose is to help keep automated spammers and hackers out of the system. Automated "spambots" can't recognize the word, so when you type it in, you're verifying to the system that you're a real human being.

The "captcha" answer is case-sensitive. Is it possible you're entering the word in lower case, but it's actually an upper-case word?
